Mentor Match FAQs
What is Mentor Matching?
Mentor Matching is an online tool exclusively for members, designed to support professional development by helping Mentees and Mentors find suitable matches through a searchable database. Both Mentees and Mentors can search profiles to connect based on shared interests and expertise.
Is there a fee to use Mentor Matching?
No, Mentor Matching is a free benefit for members.
How does the matching process work?
After enrolling as a Mentor, Mentee, or both, members select preferences based on demographics and interests. Mentees and Mentors can then use the "Find a Mentor" or "Find a Mentee" pages to search profiles and request connections, which the other party can accept or decline via email.
For Mentors
To enroll as a Mentor, complete the Mentor Enrollment form with your demographics, expertise areas, and preferences. Once enrolled, you can search the Mentee directory by filtering for interests, career stage, or skills. When you find a match, send a connection request directly from their profile.
Yes, you may mentor more than one Mentee if your schedule allows. We recommend being mindful of your availability so that each Mentee receives meaningful guidance and attention. You can adjust your preferences at any time to limit or expand your mentoring capacity.
You will receive email notifications when a Mentee requests to connect. From your profile dashboard, you can accept or decline requests and update your availability settings. If your workload changes, adjust your status to reflect whether you are actively seeking new Mentees.
It’s okay to end a mentoring relationship if circumstances change or if the match isn’t working. Communicate openly with your Mentee, explain your reasons respectfully, and encourage them to continue their journey with another Mentor if possible. You can then update your availability and accept new requests.
As a Mentor, you are expected to:
- Be responsive to Mentee communication and requests.
- Offer guidance, advice, and encouragement based on your expertise.
- Respect confidentiality and maintain professionalism.
- Help your Mentee set goals and stay accountable.
- Be open, honest, and supportive throughout the relationship.
For Mentees
To enroll as a Mentee, complete the Mentee Enrollment form with your demographics, interests, and goals. Once enrolled, you can browse the Mentor directory, filter for expertise and availability, and send a connection request to a Mentor who aligns with your needs.
Yes, Mentees may connect with more than one Mentor, particularly if they seek guidance in different areas (e.g., technical skills, leadership, or career planning). Be mindful of your ability to manage multiple relationships effectively and respectfully.
If you feel the match isn’t working, have an open conversation with your Mentor about your concerns. If necessary, you can respectfully end the relationship and continue your search for another Mentor in the directory who better fits your goals.
Meetings can be held in person, virtually, or by phone depending on what works best for both you and your Mentor. Many pairs prefer video calls or phone conversations, while others may choose to meet during conferences or networking events.
Mentoring relationships typically last 6–12 months, but the duration is flexible. At the beginning of your relationship, set expectations with your Mentor about frequency of meetings and overall timeline. Relationships can continue beyond this timeframe if both parties agree.
